Each year as a part of our Keep Arts Alive campaign We Care creates a large public art piece made of several canvas pieces. Two to three students from multiple Metro Atlanta schools are chosen to take part in this collaborative project and represent their school.
We Care Academy's Emerging Teen Artists along with several other promising young artists from metro Atlanta schools will spend a day together creating a work of art over 5ft high and 15ft wide. The students will work together for several hours and be visited by different local Atlanta artists who will teach the students about design, the creative process, and sharing their experiences working in the arts. Their work will be on display during our Cocktails and Canvas and in a secondary show for teens and their peers.
The piece will be setup in panels. The students will be working together from 12pm to 5pm Saturday afternoon April 14th at The Sound Table in Space 2. Dinner will be provided for the students at The Sound Table directly afterwards. The students only have 5 hours to design and produce the work, all of the supplies will be provided for them.
If you’re interested please email education@wecareacademy.org to get registration information. Students must register before they may take part in this project. You may also click registration and select the public art button. We Care Academy’s "Keep Arts Alive" campaign helps to supplement the visual arts programs many schools have had to cut for budget reasons. It is well-known that students who participate in the arts see their academic grades improve, learn productive creative skills, and build their self-confidence to reach their full potential. Our programs serve students kindergarten through 8th grade and focuses on developing student’s creativity, imaginations, and self-expression. Combining mathematics, architectural design, simple drawing and painting, and literature we will have students create and design their own cities, stories, and solve problems by visualizing the scenarios. We believe that the arts are as integral to learning as all other academic subjects. Students will engage in a creative process, problem-solving, and aesthetic understanding through development and examination of their own art works and the art works of others in many different forms.
